Giverny (Picture 1)
Giverny and the Monet House are 20 minutes away from Saint-Pierre-La-Garenne. Famous all over the world, the Monet house should not be missed.

Château-Gaillard (Pictures 2 et 3)

Château-Gaillard, the royal Richard stronghold stands high over the Seine river. It is a reminder of Normandy's historical independence. Visitors will appreciate its architecture, its lookout over the valley and the curves of the river Seine.
Close to Les Andelys, go to the Andé mill (Le moulin d'Andé).

You will drive alongside the Seine River valley and the white chalk cliffs.

Il you choose to go to Gisors, you will visit a very old castle, built on the normand boarder, after Normandy's independence (11th and 12 century). The legend assumes the treasure of the Knight templars is hidden somewhere in it.

Gaillon and Vernon
You can also visit the nearby towns of Gaillon and Vernon where half-timbered houses from the Renaissance period mix with modern shops. Whilst in Vernon, you can also visit the Bizy castle.
At Gaillon, visit the castle, recently open to the public, the oldest renaissance-style built in France.

La Roche-Guyon et Vétheuil
La Roche-Guyon, the castle and Vétheuil, where the church has been painted so many times by the impressionists, will welcome you if you drive towards Paris, on the secondary roads. As in Les Andelys, white chalk cliffs  line the Seine river.

Lyons-la-Forêt

What was a small French village like in the 18th century? In Lyons-la-Forêt (40km), you can experience one which has retained its original feel. In Fleury-la-Forêt, visit the castle and especially its puppet collection. Make a closed loop by Ry, the village where “Madame Bovary” lived in the 19th century. Visit the village and its lovely church, with its typical wooden hall. If you feel inspired, take a stroll along the Andelle river, or maybe the Crevon, or Herondelles rivers. Discover the Martainville castle, entirely built with red bricks. End your day with a trip to the Vascoeuil castle, or to the Mortemer abbey and the Écouis abbey-church.

Le Pays d'Auge

In the heart of Normandy, you will find the village of Camembert in Pays d'Auge (100 km)- it is a historic half-timbered bocage with its patchword of farmland marked by traditional hedges. Today this is the image of the ideal French countryside, with fat cows, apple-trees, small villages and cooking with cream and calvados.

Rouen

Discover Rouen, the wonderful aître Saint-Maclou (one of the oldest cimetery in France, from the plague  period, 14th century, free visit),  the Eau-de-Robec street et the famous sites like the cathedral, the law courts, The Gros Horloge street, the Vieux-marché place. Do not hesitate to walk in the twisting narrow streets all around the Saint-Maclou church, looking at the very old houses, in the middle-aged Rouen, more alive that never.

Walking and riding
Many other visits can be organised (abbeys, forests, marais Vernier, etc), and the owners will happily advise you on all the local and Parisian sites of interest.

Nearer by the house, the Norman hills make pleasant walking or riding. Several routes are sign-posted. They vary in length, and are accessible to everyone of average fitness. You can also enjoy a stroll along the Seine River where there is a bird reserve.

And, at last, remains Paris! Paris is less than one hour away by train or by car.
